Impact
Creates a globally significant cultural destination that strengthens public engagement with nature and science.
A museum shaped by the landscape, where nature, science and city life converge.
Nicknamed āThe Deltaā, Shenzhen Natural History Museum draws inspiration from the river delta landscapes that have shaped the ecological and cultural identity of southern China. Rising from the surrounding parkland, the building extends the landscape into an accessible green roofscape, creating a continuous connection between nature and architecture.
Rather than functioning as an isolated object, the museum is conceived as part of the landscape itself. Its sculpted form frames immersive public spaces, ecological habitats and exhibition environments that celebrate biodiversity and scientific discovery. The design blurs the boundary between city and nature, encouraging visitors to experience the museum as a continuation of the surrounding environment.
As a landmark cultural destination, the project strengthens public engagement with science, sustainability and ecological education. It establishes a new icon for Shenzhen while demonstrating how architecture can foster deeper connections between people and the natural world.
The outcome
Establishes a major new cultural landmark for Shenzhen and a destination for science education.
